Granite Sphere and Foundation

“Yesterday”

On September 11, 2001, as a result of four separate acts of terrorism within just 80 minutes, our world was changed forever. The peace and tranquility of September became “yesterday”.

Some 3071 innocent and precious lives were taken from us but each of those lives is memorialized on the Granite Sphere, the centerpiece of the Memorial Plaza. Each name will be visible as the Sphere turns, virtually floating, on the thin film of water in the fountain.

The California State Fair Board of Directors began this historic effort on March 22, 2002. Upon securing the necessary World Trade Center material for a Memorial Plaza, they voted unanimously on January 24, 2003, to donate $105,000.00 for the Granite Sphere and fountain mechanism, to be built in Germany.
